Résunéy

A chronicle of my failures and what they taught me. Because success is built on the foundation of our mistakes.

2023

My card game was a flop

I spent 6 months building a card game that nobody wanted.

Lessons Learned:

  • It's nice to close some doors once in a while.
  • Basecamp works wonders for small projects
2015

Starup went bankrupt

Tried my hand at a startup. It went bankrupt.

Lessons Learned:

  • Building to flip, is building to flop.
2013

Night of broken dreams

We (Fitbay devs) managed to somehow break our solution and add more problems throughout the night, hours before our investor pitch.

Lessons Learned:

  • You can raise money with a Power Point deck.
  • Nothing good happens after 2 AM.
2010

Wasn't chosen for Air Traffic Controller

I made it all the way into the final pool. After two years, I wasn't picked, and then you get taken off the list automatically.

Lessons Learned:

  • Putting your life on hold for something that might come to pass is a bad idea.
2009

Didn't make the cut for Fighter Pilot School

It was always a dream of mine to be Maverick.

Lessons Learned:

  • I wasn't anybody's wingman just yet.
2008

Failed to become a frogman

I was in the best shape of my life, but I didn't have the mental fortitude needed.

Lessons Learned:

  • You can run all day.
  • But you can't hide from the mental game.
2006

Dropped out of Constructional Architecture

I was an average student. This was supposed to be a stepping stone to become an architect. Ultimately, I dropped out and went to the army while also dodging my exams. I never went back.

Lessons Learned:

  • All things catch up to you eventually.
  • Maybe I'm not cut out to be a student.
2002

Failed most of my Mock Exams for the International Baccalaureate

In my defense, I didn't study that much. Lucky for me, it was a wake up call that came just in time.

Lessons Learned:

  • You can learn a lot in just a few weeks.
  • I work better--no, faster--under pressure.
1995

Flunked every single book report in 6th grade

I wasn't a terrible student. I was a loud and disruptive student. I counldn't sit still, even if my life depended on it.

Lessons Learned:

  • Sometimes you end up loving what you used to hate.
